Jeff is a litigator and appellate lawyer whose practice is concentrated on commercial, construction, and real estate disputes. His pro bono work is focused on First Amendment defense of defamation claims, and on public access to courts and government; Jeff argued and won the unanimous decision from the Ohio Supreme Court in State ex rel. Volokh v. Shanahan. Jeff’s volunteer work includes service on the Anderson Township Board of Zoning Appeals, and he has led recent efforts to support the passage of an anti-SLAPP bill in the Ohio legislature. He is admitted to practice and represents clients in the state and federal courts in Ohio and Indiana.
Jeff lives in Anderson with his wife, who is a physician, their two children, and their dogs. Jeff was born and raised on a miniature donkey farm.
In October 2016, Jeff served as a panelist at the Ohio State Bar Association 2016 Law and Media Conference help in Columbus, Ohio. Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPPs) are civil complaints that discourage people from speaking out about public matters. Panelist, Jeff Nye, discusses SLAPPs and Ohio’s legislative and judicial efforts to create anti-SLAPP remedies.
